Intro

To properly respond to the Deepwater Horizon (DWH) disaster, the DOI recognized a need to produce engaging public outreach tools that explained the challenges and how they were being addressed. Over a five-year period, iostudio provided professional videography and photography services to produce six long-form, documentary-style videos, seven short-form social media videos, and 50-100 edited photographs (per video shoot). The videos raised awareness of the DOI’s efforts and captured their vision of providing access and education to foster understanding of how they utilize funds to preserve refuges like Breton Island.

Challenge

Following the Deepwater Horizon disaster, the Department of the Interior (DOI) needed effective public outreach tools to explain the environmental damage in the Gulf States and demonstrate how restoration efforts were being carried out. The goal was to raise awareness, foster transparency, and show the public how funds were being used to protect natural resources for future generations.

Solution

iostudio delivered professional videography and photography services, producing a series of short educational videos and expanding DOI’s photography library. Using high-definition ground and aerial cinematography, seasonal shoots, historical footage, and on-camera interviews, we created visually compelling content that showcased both the challenges and the progress of restoration efforts.

Impact

The six videos provided engaging, accessible stories that raised public awareness of ongoing recovery work at multiple sites impacted by the spill. They highlighted the importance of protecting wildlife and natural habitats, while reinforcing DOI’s mission of transparency and stewardship. By combining education with powerful visuals, the content fostered public understanding and support for long-term conservation.
